Seniorcorp currently has openings for the following positions:
Providing companionship and assistance to help the elderly remain in their own homes can bring you rewards you never thought possible. Seniorcorp is recruiting responsible, caring, and flexible individuals with experience in household management for non-medical, in-home support services, including home management (light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, trash removal), meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, medication reminders, some documentation, and client transportation (errands, appointments, shopping trips).
The companion caregiver will also maintain client confidentiality, a safe environment, and a strict adherence to client’s rights.
Your schedule as a Companion Caregivers can range anywhere from a part-time, 20 hour a week shift, to full-time days. Another option is living in the home of a client (with separate accommodations) for a period of at least 24 hours, to be available for companionship or personal care around the clock. A live-in position can be a great alternative to the traditional hourly shift assignment.
Required Qualifications:
Along with the services that a Companion Caregiver would provide, Certified Caregivers are trained to provide a higher level of assistance to seniors in their home environment, including some medical duties.
To start you on the road as a Certified Caregiver, Seniorcorp offers a 40-hour PCA Certification course, taught by Registered Nurses who have expertise in the home care and nursing industry. The course was developed by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance, and is recognized throughout the state of Virginia. The Personal Care Attendant Certification is valid throughout Virginia, so if you move or change jobs, your certification is portable to other Virginia employers.
Seniorcorp also provides internal advancement opportunities for those certified caregivers wanting to provide more specialized care for our clients. In addition to the normal duties of a certified caregiver, you may provide hospice assistance, advanced alzheimer’s and dementia care, and assistance with transfers of non-ambulatory clients. You will be required to successfully pass our training courses taught in our Seniorcorp office by a skilled Registered Nurse. This advancement opportunity can increase your pay, sharpen your skills, and broaden your client base.
Do you have the interest and motivation to help seniors? Have you had personal or professional experience caring for others? Have you ever wondered how you can provide personal care in the Home Health Care field without months of nursing school? If you have ever asked yourself these questions, Seniorcorp’s PCA course is for you.
What is a PCA? A PCA is a certified individual who can help the patient with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, ambulating, transferring, medication reminders, and toileting. PCAs can also assist clients with the daily tasks including meal preparation, laundry, shopping, and errands. A Personal Care Attendant performs everyday routine care of patients in a variety of settings.
Seniorcorp’s 40-hour PCA course is designed to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to assist clients within their home environment. Our class, taught by Registered Nurses who have the expertise in the home care and nursing industry, will prepare you for a career in helping others and assisting seniors in their home. Our PCA course curriculum is developed by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance and is recognized throughout the state of Virginia.
What about cost? The training program is very affordable. Seniorcorp subsidizes the training costs so that the total fee is much less than other PCA training classes. A small, up-front monetary commitment is required.
How many weeks is the course? The certification course classes are held at Seniorcorp's offices from 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday, for one week, with additional home assignments. The course is designed this way to give you the opportunity to start working quickly.
Can the PCA Certification help me if I move or change jobs? The Personal Care Attendant Certification is valid throughout Virginia, so if you move or change jobs, your certification is portable to other Virginia employers.
Will I qualify to take the PCA Certification course? To be accepted into the program, you must have a clean background, be drug-free, and have good references, a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and access to an insured vehicle. We look for candidates who have a heart for others and have experience with seniors, either professionally or with family members.
What will I do after I receive the certification? Duties will include companionship, cooking, errands, light housekeeping, and may include mild (non-medical) personal care such as assisting with bathing, toileting, dressing, ambulating, and transferring.
